It is quite easy to apply for a Kenyan passport from a cyber
café. Just follow these 3 simple steps:
- Identify the specific cyber café from where you would be making the Kenyan passport application. Note that there are some cyber cafés where the assistants seem to lack knowledge on how to go about filling the Kenya passport forms. But if you search diligently, especially among the bigger cyber cafes in the major towns/cities, you should soon come across one where the people are knowledgeable about passport application. There are also some small cyber cafes with folks who know how to complete Kenya passport applications forms online...So the best thing is simply to go to a cyber cafe and ask the people there whether they do passport applications, and at how much.
- Venture into the identified cyber café, and inform the assistants that you want to apply for a Kenyan passport. They will inform you what they charge for the service, at this stage. Note that there are two types of charges to be catered for here. There is the money that is paid to the government for passport application. This you will probably pay directly, using your phone, to the ecitizen immigration passports paybill number. It will depend on the type of passport you are looking to apply for (whether it is ordinary A series, B series, C series, diplomatic, East African passport… and so on and also depending on how many pages/passport size). The second type of charge to be catered for is that of cyber café fees. In this regard, the cyber café assistant may request you to pay them anything from 200 bob to 500 bob or even more, for the service they render in helping you apply for the Kenyan passport online.
- The cyber café assistants will then request you to furnish them with the various requirements – which could include your ID card and your parents ID cards.
- Having gotten the required documents, the cyber café assistants would then go to the eCitizen portal, immigration, passports application platform. They would then fill in the Kenya passport application forms for you. Once the forms are filled in, they are to be printed out, and taken physically (alongside the passport photos and other supporting documents) to one of the immigration offices for processing.
Of course, if you have a decent level of computer literacy,
and know how to use web-based applications like the eCitizen application, then
you can use one of the cyber café computers to apply for yourself. In that case
you would just need to identify a suitable cyber café. Then you go sit behind
one of the working computers. Then you enter the address for eCitizen
immigration passports application platform. Then you fill in the required
information, print out the Kenya passport forms and present them at an
immigration center for processing.
Note
that after presenting your Kenya passport application forms at the immigration
center, you won’t go home with a passport the same day! Normally, for first
time Kenya passport applicants, the processing takes 10 days, sometimes more. For
people seeking Kenya passport renewal, the processing takes 5 days, sometimes
more. Ultimately, as long as you provided accurate information in the forms,
you will eventually get your Kenya passport.
